Hyperkalemia- not mKay

Hyperkalemia- not mKay

Potassium in the wrong amount or wrong place is pretty dangerous.

One note: while the most common life threatening thing we’re going to see with hyperkalemia is likely to be cardiac dysfunction. I make a statement in the video that they tend not to get respiratory paralysis or something like that, and I stand by that statement. You can get some respiratory dysfunction, but I submit to you that you’re likely going to be treating (empirically if you do) based EKG findings. I don’t think I’ve ever given calcium for respiratory depression- if they’re that bad off, they probably need intubated. I’m not saying don’t ever, it’s just not going to be common.
